Book Portals Guide
Tired of walking thousands of blocks to get back to your base? The Book Portals system allows you to build custom, magical portals that you can link together and access using special keys.
Instead of typing teleport commands, you build physical portals and carry physical keys to open them.
Crafting & Building Your Portal
Step 1: Craft an Unbound Book Key Before you can open a portal, you need a key. You can craft an Unbound Book Key using a crafting table.
- Recipe: 1x Book + 1x Nether Star (Shapeless - place them anywhere in the grid).
Step 2: Build the Portal Frame You need to build a 5x5 vertical frame. The outer ring must be made entirely out of Bookshelves and/or Logs. This will leave a 3x3 empty gap in the center of the frame.
Step 3: Activate the Portal Hold your Unbound Book Key in your hand and right-click the inside edge of your bookshelf/log frame.
- The portal will instantly activate with magical visuals.
- Your Unbound Book Key will magically transform into a Bound Book Key.
Using Your Book Keys
Your Bound Book Key is permanently tied to the specific portal you just created.
The Magical Compass: If you ever get lost, simply hold a Bound Book Key in your main hand or off-hand. If you are within 100 blocks of the portal it belongs to, a magical compass will appear above your hotbar, pointing you exactly where you need to go.
The Key Storage Chest:
You don't want to lose these keys, and they cannot be stacked. To keep them safe, type /bp keys in chat. This will open a secure, virtual Key Chest where you can safely store all your portal keys without taking up space in your inventory.
Customizing Your Portals & Keys
Coloring your Portals (Dyeing): You can change the magical color of your portal. Simply open your crafting inventory and place your Bound Book Key next to any vanilla Dye (Shapeless recipe). This will dye the key and instantly change the visual color of the physical portal it is linked to.
Naming your Keys: If you have a lot of keys, you can label them so you don't get confused:
- Set a Name:
/bp key name <Name>(e.g., /bp key name Secret Base) - Set a Description:
/bp key description <Text>
Sharing Portals with Friends
Want to let your friends use your portal? You can duplicate your key and give them a "Shared Key." You can even put a time limit on it.
Command: /bp key share <playername> <time>
Note: If you don't want people sending you random keys, you can type /bp acceptsharedkeys disable to block incoming shared keys.
